SOPHIE

YO...

I'm sitting here at JENKINSONS in Point Pleasant, NJ... drinking a few beers and typing away on my laptop... I'm supposed to be on vacation...and for the most part i am...but I have to sit down here and shoot out a few emails to the cast and crew of CATCH 4...which we are planning on shooting Sept 6 and 7.... so obviously there is a bit of pre production to handle...especially since I have yet to cast the role of SOPHIE...this is the basic breakdown:

Seeking SOPHIE: African American or Hispanic woman, 40-50. Sophie is a prison guard who has one scene with Mike Fisk as he prepares to leave the prison grounds forever. There is a chance this character will return due to the slight hint of a possible romantic connection.

SOPHIE is a badass...but she has a passionate nurturing side...she has known MIKE FISK...Maggie's father...for 25 years...and now he's walking out those doors into the cold cruel world....

So yeah... i need to cast SOPHIE...and cast her soon....

AND.... i gotta go.... headed back to the beach house to meet up with some friends for a little Jersey shore dinner....

(back in LA next Saturday)

Oh...one last message from my 3 year old nephew Casey... he would like to say something to everyone.... to my vast and massive global audience... gather round people...listen up...Casey's got something to say.....drum roll please... the cool, calm and collected cat... the kid we call call Casey says:

"Poopee"

Thank you Casey....

And........scene.

Finally...a trailer for the comedy series "AND...scene."

(Still somewhat undecided on the title)

This series is about more than just a fledgling acting school...its about more than questionable theater and humiliating auditions... It is about the millions of performers who pour their heart and soul into the craft ...it's designed to give a voice to every actor out there who may never find one...

(Thank you thank you thank you to everyone that made this possible)

Produced by myself and Susannah Kennedy, this trailer features The directorial talents of Meg Scibona and Jim Spring, along with hilarious performances by Josh Conkel, Katie Apicella, Leslie Miller, Sharon Bushman, Derek Peith, David Arthur Bachrach, Don Puglisi, James Huffman, Thomas Vilorio and more.

Ok, that being said...and with much more to come, I hope you enjoy it...

Broken Legs

Monday morning...

Picking up new headshot prints today. I'm planning a new mailing to see if I can find myself some fresh representation. After posting a ton of new pics and hitting up people for opinions, I picked one and had 50 printed up. It's the same pic I have posted right now on my Facebook page. I'll save all the character shots for email submissions and use more of a traditional shot for mailings and hard copy use.

Got a call from Central Casting on Friday. Looks like I'll be doing a day of background on "Desperate Housewives" next week.

I also met with more directors on Friday. The idea is to open up the collaborative process and get fresh talent to direct upcoming episodes of CATCH. I'll keep wiritng and producing...but I think letting different directors make their personal mark on the project will help create buzz for the series... also, since I'm going to be appearing in upcoming episodes...I'd like to be able to focus on my character and not be distracted by whats going on on set. All this collabortion means that I will have to start churning out epsiodes... so I need to start writng...

also entertaining the idea of enlisting more writers to work on the series....see how that goes... should be an interesting cooperative experiment..

SO...after a small screening last night.... I'm getting ready to post 3 new projects on youtube and the Indie City website...

I'll be posting the latest episode of CATCH. Episode 2... "The Playing Field," Indie City's 48 HRFP film (chosen as one of the best of LA 2008)... and a 3 minute trailer for the comedy series that I started shooting last Summer in New York. The same comedy series that I've been asking around to try and come up with a good name. After sending and receiving a bunch of text messages and emails, throwing around potential titles... I narrowed it down to two names: "And ...Scene" and "Breaking Legs."

"And...Scene" was sort of a temporary working title I was using last year...one of 2 or 3 working titles actually.... I was calling the project a few different names...depending on who I was talking to. "And...Scene" is cute...doesn't quite roll off the tongue... I'm just not in love with name.

"Breaking Legs" I really like. I think it's great for a title...but its actually being used... "Breaking Legs" is the title of a very popular Mafia-based showbiz comedy that ran here in NYC for a long time and is now played in every summer playhouse in America.

The other day I was googling "Breaking Legs" to see what I came up with and I came across this youtube clip titled, of course, "Breaking Legs." And guess what this lovely little film clip featured... a montage of footage of people actually breaking legs... disgusting.... I couldnt look away....it was awful...real clips of people in different sports...like a professional wrestler jumping down on his opponent from the ropes and wheh he lands, his legs snaps and basically just dangles from his body...NASTY....anyway.

so.... for now..."AND...scene" it is.... for now

OBAMA's DRAMARAMA TRAUMA MAMA

Up late last night...sitting with two different editors at two different locations working on 3 different projects...all of which are being screened on Sunday...

Late last night I was going through hours of footage that was shot last Summer for a sit com pilot that I co wrote, co-produced...

Man, I havent laughed that hard in a while...there is a lot of funny funny stuff there... I cant wait to start churning it out.

The initial plan was to create a 30 minute sit com pilot...write a few more episodes...and pitch that bitch... anywhere and everywhere.

Well...one year later...after a move to the West Coast and plenty of acclimation time...I'm still sitting on all this great footage... so for the time being...I'm going to be whipping together a few short episodes for the internet while I start writing more material for the series...

Anyway...a trailer for that project will be screened on Sunday as well and will likely be posted on Youtube and the Indie City website on Monday.

This particular project has to receive an official name. I have played around with a few working titles...but nothing has quite had the pleasure of sticking.... It was "Just Point Me" for a while...which is a shortened version of "Just Point me in the Right Direction." JPMITRD is the name of the short play, written by Marcus Jones, that inspired the series concept. I was calling it "Bad Apple Studios" for a while. "Bad Apple Studios" is the ficticious name of fledgling New York City acting school that serves as the setting (and a character) for the series.

But still havent quite found the right one.

So today, just on a whim, I decided to send a text message to some of my more creative friends...asking for some help on the matter. I popped out a text to about 20 people, figuring I'd get maybe 5 responses. 2 minutes later I was getting slammed...

Trying to field text messages and respond to a barrage of incoming contributions while driving is no easy task. But I managed.

This is what my afternoon looked like:

JIM: need your help...and one or two word title to a short film or series about an acting school filled with hapless actors doing questionable to terrible theater.

Brandon: hey bro! long time no talk. try BAGHEAD.

Chuck: BAD COMPANY

JIM: not bad mr peck not bad

JIM: Whats up Brandon! How goes? When u coming out to LA?

Chuck: I'll think on it a bit more, beer would help.

JIM: Thats even better! BEER WOULD HELP!

Charlotte: Scool of Ack-ting and Trauma

JIM: Thats not one OR two words!

Charlotte: Ugh...lemme think some more...

Brandon: Entertaining the idea.

Therese: Duh...CREATIVE ACTING.

JIM: Too cose to home...not catchy enough. How are you by the way?

Charlotte: ACKTING School

JIM: Nah

Charlotte: DRAMARAMA DEPARTMENT.

JIM: I like DRAMARAMA.

Therese: Tired of working for a living. How are u?

JIM: Story of my life. I'm fine. Hustlin ass out here.

Charlotte: DRAMARAMATRAUMA.

JIM: You just gonna keep adding words on the end? DRAMARAMATRAUMA YO MAMMA!

Stephen R: TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE...or maybe SMALL ACTORS.

JIM: Clever...but too long...SMALL ACTORS is kind of mean.

Stephen: Story of my life.

Charlotte: OBAMA.

JIM: okay...this is getting silly.

Therese: how about SOUND & FURY.

JIM: Nice! I like that one.

Trevor: THE BOARDS.

MIKE B: INTENTION or THE MAGIC "IF"

Simona: AND...SCENE! I like how every bad actor lest people know their scene is over.

JIM: Yeah...I had that one on my list for a while...sounds too much like a board game.

Trevor: BETRAYING PORTRAYING

Andrew: READING LINES

Charlotte: OBAMA's DRAMARAMA TRAUMA MAMA

JIM: Go away.

Andrew: DOING MACBETH

Trevor: PRETENDERS

Ben: ALTERNATIVE ACTING SCHOOL: Jump on the short bus to success.

JIM: Can you come up with something a little longer?

Ben: That was the title and the tag line.

JIM: Cool...thx

Shimmy: HAM SANDWICH, 3-ACT DRAAAMA, GIVE EM THE HOOK.

JIM: Nice, nice, nice.

Seth: PRETENDER POINT.

JIM: Hm? Starring Katie Holmes? Shot in Wilmington, NC and airing on the WB?

Seth: No.

JIM: Oh.

Adjustments?

Monday morning...

Start of a a new week.... as is every Monday...but this week is different... I made the decision last week to shake things up...make some major changes in my situation here in LA. I mean...I'm coming up on a my one year mark since I landed here on the West Coast...and while I've made progress...accomplished a few things.... I think its time to make some adjustments.

The day job is a big one...funny...that old term "Day Job." That;s an anitquated phrase...nowadays, artists and performers work in so many different environments and fields that DAY JOB hardly applies to anything... it basically refers at any job that is not artist related...

Anyway.... my job as a beverage sale rep here in Southern California has been good to me. I have enjoyed many months of solid, full time work... freedom and flexibility... that being said... I have two major issues that are causing me to consider a move...

Number one...I'm not meeting any new people when I work...I'm basically a lone wolf out there...driving from store to store..all over LA...all day long...I'm by myself...sure I meet store owners and managers... but thats not really doing much for me socially or professionally.... so while I love the freedom of not having to report to an office or ocation every morning...I would also love to have a group of people that I work with that can potentially become friends on some level...maybe those co workes can help me build my network of contacts on a professional level as well...

Ok...so number 2... I'm in my car...all the time...not just getting to and from work...my work keeps me on the road constantly...all day.... which is not great for the environment...not great financially...and not great mentally and emotionally... everyone is in there car in Los Angeles...but I'm using my car more than the average person... I'd love to find a way to cut that down.

Ok..so that being said... Friday night I started searching Craiglist and reaching out to marekting companies to test the waters...see if there is any work out there as a market manager or brand ambassador...I'm also going to Central Casting tomorrow to register for background work...not crazy about doing background...but it could be a temorary solution. I could meet new people and I would be on set for the day...not driving around in my car.

Now...the only draw back to all this...is having the flexibility to audition...which I DO have right now in my current job... the problem is.... Right now, I'm not auditioning all that much... which is another thing I need to adjust... I'm working on that as well... trying to find fresh representation....with my new headshots I've got a mailing planned...I'm still taking the casting director workshops...blah blah blah

So if I can give my audition frequency a boost...that could trump everything else and I'll just suck it up and stay right where I am.

Anyway... should be an interesting week...
